We provide consultations on class management, how to set up an effective library, starting an open learning center, creating more holistic tuition centers (for ages 8-15) and learning programmes that teach organization methods, life skills and creativity for foster homes, children living at the margins and for personnel working with adults with mental illness.
Case Studies - On Consultation.
Anjali is a well-known NGO intervening in govt. mental hospitals to empower, revitalize and arrange better living for the adult inmates suffering from mental illness. Attracted by the learning materials and methods developed by Shikshamitra, Anjali approached us to act as consultant (July to November 2012) guide for their facilitator, who took sessions with the patients in Lumbini Mental Hospital. Patients and facilitator both responded well.
Shikshamitra was asked to offer appropriate management and communication skills for the caregivers of a home for destitute girls, Mahila Seva Samity, near Kolkata. Language materials, management techniques helped to break down barrier and open communication and better understanding. (2012)
On request from NGO, Tomorrow’s Foundation, Shikshamitra offered a 2 days demonstrative workshop on “how to improve a support centre” through good class management techniques and use of appropriate, meaningful materials. 70 children participated in groups while 50 teachers from the NGO observed and interacted. (2012)
Currently, since August 2014, two working mothers come to Shikshamitra to learn effective methods of teaching learning, to facilitate their children’s studies. The experience is new and very rewarding for both the learners and the Shikshamitra facilitator. We had always wanted to work with parents. Perhaps this is the initiation.
